A substantial studio pottery bowl hand-thrown in speckled stoneware and decorated in cobalt blue and soft cream. A continuous hand-painted botanical vine of stylized leaves and scrolling tendrils encircles the exterior, framed by a deep cobalt rim and subtle blue banding.
The interior features concentric hand-drawn cobalt rings that spiral inward toward the center, creating a graphic contrast with the more organic decoration around the exterior. Natural speckling in the clay and slight irregularities in the rim and painted linework emphasize the handmade character of the piece.
The underside bears an incised geometric maker’s mark along with additional impressed or incised markings, though the artist has not been identified.
A particularly appealing example of American studio craft with enough scale to display prominently on a table, open shelving, or within a collected grouping of ceramics.
