Directly inspired by Gian … Read more A striking, sculptural table lamp manufactured by the highly collectible mid-century producer Romanesque Originals (Brentwood, Maryland). Directly inspired by Gian Lorenzo Bernini's historic 1667 "Elephant and Obelisk" monument in Rome's Piazza della Minerva, this fixture brings an air of old-world European grandtour architecture to the Hollywood Regency aesthetic.
The lamp features an ivory-cream base coat meticulously accented with a golden-yellow hand-painted trim, mimicking aged Italian Majolica glaze and giltwood craftsmanship. The obelisk tower boasts a sharp, molded leaf-and-vine relief, while the monumental elephant carries an ornate baroque shield crest. Cast in a heavy, durable structural composite, the base retains its sharp architectural lines.
Includes original rectangular silk-blend softback bell shade in a coordinating cream/beige tone.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The sculptural base has no structural breaks. Minor surface wear consistent with age. Original wiring is fully functional. The shade is in very good condition with slight age and wear from the 1960s/70s. Yellow velvet trim on top and bottom of the shade. Measured from the bottom to the top of the finial for height.
