This painting comes from the artist's personal collection and was a work Baldwin retained for herself, giving it particularly appealing provenance within her body of wildlife work.

The seated mountain lion is shown emerging from dense grasses and woodland vegetation, its tawny coat set against deep greens, earthy browns, and the textured trunk of a tree. Baldwin's careful attention to the animal's face and direct gaze gives the composition a particularly engaging presence, while the loosely worked foliage keeps the setting natural rather than overly formal. The work is signed Baldwin at lower right.

Pamela Baldwin worked across both fine and applied arts, specializing in animal and wildlife imagery. Her designs were selected by the French porcelain house Raynaud of Limoges, whose Histoire Naturelle collection continues to credit Baldwin as its wildlife artist and designer. Of particular interest, this cougar remained in Baldwin's own personal collection rather than being sold during her career. That personal provenance adds another dimension to an already engaging example of her wildlife work.
