Qashqai textiles are handwoven Persian tribal rugs, flatweaves, and decorative flatwoven kilims crafted by the nomadic Qashqai confederation in the Zagros Mountains of southwestern Iran.
A camel trapping textile is an ornamental, hand-woven or embroidered hanging—such as an asmalyk—traditionally used by nomadic Central Asian and Middle Eastern tribes to decorate bridal camels during wedding processions and festive ceremonies.
Brides in tribes like the Turkmen, Ersari, and Yomut wove or embroidered these intricate pieces themselves to display their craftsmanship and wish for fertility and a prosperous new life.
They were fastened to the flanks or sides of the camel carrying the bride to her new home. These are crafted using hand-spun wool, silk embroidery, or felt applique, featuring symbolic geometric or floral motifs and thick tassels.
