The tall sculptural form features a wide stepped base, slender central column and raised candle cup, with virtually every visible surface covered in shells of varying sizes, shapes and natural colors. Scallop, cowrie and spiral shells are layered throughout, with larger shells creating dimensional accents around the base, column and upper portion.

Unlike more formal shellwork, this piece has a distinctly personal, free-form quality that gives it wonderful character. Created by a longtime Florida shell collector as part of an extensive collection of handmade shell-covered objects, it is truly one of a kind.

The underlying structure is wood, making this piece lighter in visual appearance than its heavily embellished surface would suggest. A black candle cup insert remains at the top and can accommodate a candle, although the piece is equally appealing displayed simply as a sculptural decorative object.
