Sculpted in the form of a realistic blackback flounder, this exceptional high-fire stoneware piece showcases remarkable dimensional detail and the distinctive craftsmanship of the Nadeaus.

The intricate scale pattern was created using the artists’ signature technique of pressing custom crocheted lace into a raw clay slab before draping it over a custom hump mold. The resulting texture captures the delicate, organic patterning of a fish’s scales while giving the surface a remarkable tactile quality.

An organic, multi-tonal glaze completes the piece, beautifully mimicking the natural coloration of a flatfish. Both sculptural and functional, the substantial stoneware platter can be used for serving or displayed as striking wall art.

The reverse is signed and dated “’79” by Rosalie and hand-inscribed with the specific title “Blackback flounder,” identifying the marine subject and further enhancing the piece’s provenance and collector appeal. See less
