Šuman joined Thonet in 1949 and remained with the company following its post-war transformation into TON, becoming one of the manufacturer's important furniture designers. His work frequently developed the established vocabulary of bentwood furniture for changing post-war interiors.

This model revisits an earlier Thonet armchair design while introducing modified armrests that give the familiar bentwood construction a cleaner and more contemporary appearance.

The chairs are made from bent beech and retain their original cream-painted finish together with their original muted red-pink upholstered seats. This unusual combination is particularly evocative of late Czechoslovak furniture production.

The set remains in very good original vintage condition. The frames show light scratches, marks and areas of wear consistent with age and use. These have intentionally been preserved rather than refinished. The original upholstery has been professionally cleaned and remains in good usable condition.
