As neoclassicism renewed interest in the architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, its symmetry and disciplined ornament found expression in furnishings made for daily life.
Here, a broad top rests above precise dentil molding, while three hand-carved drawers carry a repeated pattern of framed panels and circular motifs across the façade. Round brass pulls and keyhole escutcheons bring a glint of detail to the oak. At the base, gadrooning lends weight and rhythm to the composition, supported by carved Louis XVI feet.
