Each lantern features an openwork cage crowned with scrolling finials and a scalloped repoussé coronet decorated with hand-applied polychrome accents in teal blue, coral red, and leaf green.

The hand-wrought iron standards are executed in a barley-twist form and embellished with carved or cast acanthus knops. Tri-lobed scrolling foliate buttresses support the standards above domed, repoussé-embossed circular plinth bases. The surface retains an antiqued parcel-gilt finish with traces of polychrome decoration, giving the pair the characteristic appearance of early 20th-century Italian architectural metalwork.

Constructed from hand-wrought iron, pressed and chased sheet metal, and cast metal elements, the lanterns display hand-crimped appliqués, riveted and forged construction, and other period fabrication details. Each accommodates a multi-light cluster of approximately three to four sockets within the openwork cage.

The form and ornament suggest Venetian or Florentine Renaissance Revival metalwork, although an American theatrical or architectural origin is also possible. Examples of this type were produced for grand residential interiors, hotels, theaters, and cinema palaces during the 1920s and 1930s.

The substantial scale and architectural character make the pair particularly well suited to entry foyers, stair halls, loggias, covered terraces, Mediterranean or Spanish Revival interiors, and other spaces requiring architectural lighting. Keeping the lanterns together as an original pair enhances their decorative and collector appeal.

Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, oxidation, surface losses, and variations to the painted and gilt finish consistent with age and use. Electrical components should be inspected and updated by a qualified electrician before installation. See less
