Bent-laminated birch cantilever frames hold a woven black webbing seat and back, finished with black leather headrests fastened by leather straps. Both chairs retain their original 1999 IKEA labels.

Japanese designer Noboru Nakamura created this chair for IKEA in the late 1970s. It was first sold as the "Poem" and renamed Poäng in 1992. Nakamura's insight was that a bent-plywood cantilever could flex gently with the sitter, and it turned a modernist bentwood tradition into one of the best-selling chair designs in the world. This 1999 edition is where that story connects back to its roots: a limited edition and brief production run that took the Poäng back to Aalto's webbed original. See less
