Lecellier of Villedieu, Normandy, dating approximately from the 1960s. At over 32 inches long, the piece has an unusually strong decorative presence and is exceptionally well preserved.

The large circular copper pan features an elaborate pierced and repoussé design, with a radiating floral motif surrounded by scrolling ornament. A long turned wooden handle contrasts beautifully with the warm polished copper. The reverse is stamped “L. LECELLIER – VILLEDIEU.”

Originally used for warming beds, pieces such as this are now particularly appealing as decorative examples of traditional French copperware. Displayed vertically, its generous scale and graphic circular form make it an impressive wall object for a French country kitchen, beside a fireplace, or within a layered collection of antique and vintage pieces.

The copper remains remarkably bright and lustrous, with crisp decorative work and a beautifully preserved wooden handle.

About L. Lecellier – Villedieu
L. Lecellier was a French copperware maker based in Villedieu-les-Poêles, Normandy, a historic center of French copper and metal craftsmanship. The town became particularly known for finely made domestic copperware, and pieces bearing the “L. LECELLIER – VILLEDIEU” mark belong to this regional tradition of specialist metalworking.
