It is a RARE image showing a fashionable young woman in period dress playing tennis on a sandy court near the seashore. Note the ankle-lenth dress, the high colllar, the tight fitting silhouette and her hat. Although the restrictive dress may have limited mobility, women successfully emerged in the sport arena of tennis. They increasingly engaged in athletic games on the courts worldwide! This image is descibed as "lawn tennis" which was the term for the sport used at the time. The lithograph originally appeared as a story illustration in a French peridical of the time. It is signed in the lower right by the artist, Albert Lynch. It is NOT a recent reproduction print. It is extremely RARE to find this 100+ year old image! It is in horizontal form measuring 12.5 x 9.25 inches in size. It is perfect for today's tennis enthusiast. Comes custom matted in a neutral tone 16 x 20 inch mat ready for a standard size frame.
