The set consists of four matching grooming brushes and one hand held mirror. Each piece is beautifully covered in richly textured green shagreen, creating a remarkably cohesive ensemble. The distinctive surface is composed of thousands of tiny naturally patterned nodules, producing a wonderfully tactile, almost jewel-like appearance that shifts subtly between shades of sage, olive, and deeper green.

The strong geometric silhouettes are particularly characteristic of the Art Deco aesthetic. Broad rectangular brush heads, straight edges, and dramatically tapered handles give the pieces a clean architectural quality, while the unusual shagreen covering adds an unmistakable element of period luxury. The warm natural bristles provide an attractive contrast against the cool green surface. Shagreen was especially prized for luxury accessories and decorative objects during the 1920s and 1930s, when designers embraced exotic materials alongside bold modern forms. Covering an entire coordinated dressing set in shagreen would have represented a considerably more luxurious choice than the more commonly encountered silverplate, celluloid, or conventional leather dresser sets of the period.

Good antique condition with light signs of wear and handling. The inside border of the mirror has some buckling to the left edge. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.

Mirror: 9 inches deep, 4 inches wide and 0.50 inch high
(2) Rectangular Brushes: 5.75 inches deep, 1.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches high
(2) Angular Brushes: 8 inches deep 2.75 inches wide and 1.5 inches high

Displayed together, the five pieces have tremendous decorative presence. They would be particularly handsome arranged on a marble-topped dressing table or vanity alongside crystal perfume bottles, silver accessories, and other Art Deco objects. The set also makes an intriguing addition to a collection of antique shagreen, luxury grooming accessories, or early 20th-century decorative arts.

The beautifully complementary green tones, sculptural forms, and rarity of finding five matching shagreen-covered pieces together make this an especially appealing decorative ensemble—a sophisticated survivor from an era when even everyday personal accessories were created with extraordinary attention to materials and presentation.
