Beautifully executed in vibrant overglaze enamel colors, this striking pair captures the classic regality of imperial court attire and highlights the exquisite mimicry of fine Japanese porcelain workshops from the era.

The Empress is dressed in an elegant, soft peach and pastel floral robe featuring intricate lotus motifs, finished with a traditional sculpted black chignon. The Emperor wears an imperial deep blue and purple dragon robe detailed with stylized waves and clouds, topped with a jeweled official headdress. Both figures are seated upon elaborate thrones flanked by sculpted pink and orange mythical beast handrests. The backs of the figures are equally magnificent, adorned with large, hand-painted orange dragon and floral roundels. Each figure sits securely on an independent, custom-fitted dark wooden base accented with a faux-brass trim band and delicate floral hand-painted borders along the lower porcelain trim.

This vintage set features an apocryphal iron-red stamped Chinese Qianlong seal mark alongside its official Japanese export designation.

Perfect as mantle anchors, sideboard statements, or focal points in a Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, or Grandmillennial interior. See less
