The tapestry depicts a richly detailed field of scattered flowers, flowering plants and foliage, creating the characteristic millefleurs composition. The numerous botanical motifs are finely rendered in delicate shades of pink, cream, ochre, gold, sage green and terracotta, beautifully contrasting with the deep dark blue/charcoal background. The refined floral design, fine weaving and harmonious colours give this small tapestry a particularly charming French decorative quality. The lower border is signed “AUBUSSON.” A lovely piece to display as a wall hanging, above a console, in a bedroom, study or sitting room, and an appealing addition to a collection of French antique and vintage textiles.
