In early-20th-century Japanese export porcelain petite sugar bowl or condiment pot featuring a highly decorative molded form.
The rounded, lobed body is topped by a flared petal-like collar and fitted domed lid with a pointed finial. A single scrolling handle completes the fanciful silhouette. Polychrome floral decoration in pink, blue, yellow, and green is embellished with delicate brown tracery, small raised enamel accents, and remnants of gilding.
A purpose-made opening in the lid originally accommodated a petite serving spoon; the spoon is no longer present. An impressed star-shaped production mark appears underneath, although no identifiable factory name is present.
A particularly sweet cabinet piece for a collected tea setting, vanity arrangement, or romantic traditional interior.
