A charming set of four vintage French majolica seafood plates by Portieux Vallerysthal. Each plate features richly molded acanthus foliage surrounding a raised central flower, finished in variegated deep-green glaze over a warm cream ground.
The design incorporates a circular central well suitable for sauce or lemon, along with a generously sized curved compartment for seafood, shells, or accompaniments. An unmarked cartouche beneath the central medallion adds to the sculptural composition.
Marked on the reverse with the Portieux Vallerysthal castle emblem, “PV France.” Beautiful for serving oysters or seafood, and equally striking displayed in a cabinet or mounted as a decorative wall grouping.
