An exceptional Bohemian cut crystal vase manufactured by Carl Meltzer & Co. in Langenau near Haida, circa 1915–1916. The design is associated with the renowned Haida School of Glassmaking, one of the leading centers of Bohemian glass design during the early 20th century. The substantial cylindrical body is crafted from clear crystal glass with a rich cobalt blue overlay. Its four gently constricted sections are surrounded by exceptionally elaborate, deeply hand-cut and highly polished lens-shaped facets. These precisely executed cuts expose the clear glass beneath the blue layer, creating rhythmic diamond motifs, remarkable optical depth and constantly changing reflections. The unusually sophisticated cutting, substantial weight and perfectly polished surfaces demonstrate the exceptional craftsmanship for which the Haida glass refiners were internationally renowned. A larger version of this model is documented in specialist literature and attributed to the Haida Technical School, with execution by Carl Meltzer & Co. around 1915–1916. The vase remains highly decorative and presents beautifully. Consistent with its age and previous use, the lower interior shows slight cloudiness. There is also a small tight crack at the inner upper rim, visible upon close inspection and documented in the photographs. It does not significantly detract from the vase’s overall visual appearance but is mentioned for complete accuracy. Dimensions: Height: 7.48 in. (19 cm) Diameter: 3.15 in.
