Exceptional pair of Mid-Century Modern lounge armchairs designed by Miroslav Navrátil, Czechoslovakia, circa 1970s. The chairs feature beautifully constructed architectural wooden frames with strong geometric lines and an open, almost floating appearance. The rectangular armrests continue seamlessly into the base, while the angled open-slat backrests give the chairs an elegant and distinctly modernist profile. Generously proportioned loose seat and back cushions soften the strict geometry of the wooden structure and provide a particularly comfortable, relaxed seating position. The chairs retain their original vintage striped upholstery, an increasingly desirable feature that preserves their authentic 1970s character. The original textile shows signs of age and use, as can be expected. We recommend having the cushions reupholstered locally after purchase, allowing the new owner or interior designer to select a bespoke high-quality fabric perfectly suited to the intended interior while retaining the original wooden frames. Sold as a pair.
