Hand-carved from richly grained teak—often reclaimed or century-old wood sourced and finished in her Sumatra studio—the piece has the irregular, living silhouette that defines her work: more sculpture than object, yet fully usable.

Shamaris’s vessels are meant to live in a room the way a good painting does. Place it on a console or dining table as a centerpiece, fill it with fruit, magazines, or folded linens, or leave it empty and let the grain and form do the work. The contrast between polished surfaces and raw or naturally weathered edges is typical of her studio: “organic is the new modern,” and “perfection is imperfection.” See less
