The Stanford Court Nob Hill San Francisco, California souvenir ashtray or catchall features a central 'SC' surrounded by ornate gold … Read more The Stanford Court Nob Hill San Francisco, California souvenir ashtray or catchall features a central 'SC' surrounded by ornate gold scrolling and foliage in a style reminiscent of its 1876 Gilded Age beginnings when California Governor, Stanford University founder and railway tycoon Leland Stanford built a monumental mansion on the crest of Nob Hill. Surviving the 1906 earthquake, the mansion was taken by the fire that followed shortly after. In 1912 the lot was rebuilt as the Stanford Court Apartments, and later transitioned to the Stanford Court Hotel in 1972. See less
