Retains excellent provenance with … Read more An exceptional, investment-grade example of late 19th-century American craftsmanship, this Antique Victorian Pier Mirror (c. 1880). Retains excellent provenance with the original, handwritten 'S. Heyman' craftsman signature preserved in chalk on the unpolished underside of the authentic marble console shelf. During the Gilded Age, S. Heyman & Co. was a prominent New York City manufacturer and retailer specializing in upper-middle-class home furnishings, bedding, and architectural looking-glasses. Standing at an architecturally grand yet highly versatile 7 feet 10 inches tall, this striking statement piece is perfectly scaled to fit standard 8-foot ceilings with room to spare. The mirror frame is meticulously carved from premium, rich-grained wood [walnut/mahogany] featuring a slim, elegant silhouette that anchors beautifully into a room without overwhelming it. The centerpiece of the console base is its original, highly prized Tennessee Red Marble shelf. The marble showcases a stunning natural palette of blush pink and deep chocolate-red burgundy tones accented by striking cream-colored speckles. This piece is completely intact and in excellent condition. The wood frame exhibits a gorgeous, deep patina earned over nearly 150 years, and the Tennessee red marble slab remains beautifully preserved. The glass is beveled and is in great condition with some “foxing” which is not unusual for a piece of this age.
