A wonderful matching pair of Italian Mid-Century Modern ceramic lidded boxes by Mancioli Pottery for Raymor, dating to 1968.
Each sculptural vessel is modeled as a tightly wound ball of yarn, with deeply molded strands creating remarkable texture and dimension. Finished in a warm ivory/cream glaze with subtle tonal variations that emphasize the hand-worked surface.
The upper portion lifts away to reveal a glazed interior, making these pieces equally suitable as decorative objects, trinket boxes or small covered jars.
Both pieces retain their desirable underside markings identifying Mancioli, Made in Italy, Raymor, along with the 1968 date. Raymor was an important American importer and distributor of postwar European modern design and is particularly associated with collectible Italian ceramics of the mid-20th century. Documented examples identify this yarn design as Mancioli for Raymor, Italy, 1968.
Dimensions: approximately 4” diameter × 4” high each.
