A molded cornice crowns the richly worked frieze, while the vertical stiles are embellished with carved foliage and fruit, framing the open shelving with considerable decorative detail.
The design reflects the Renaissance Revival tradition of the 19th century, when European cabinetmakers returned to architectural proportions, classical ornament and deeply carved naturalistic motifs. The carving is concentrated around the framework, allowing the open shelves and paneled oak interior to remain practical and visually balanced.
