The rich walnut brown surface highlights two open shelves, turned corner posts, characteristic of France furniture making in the directoire tradition, of the directoire period. Its surface and joinery bear the honest, gradual wear of genuine age rather than a manufactured distress, evidence of a long working life already lived. An object that has already survived this long carries a kind of authenticity no reproduction can offer, and living with it means becoming part of its ongoing story. It is one of the better decisions you can make for the planet as well as your home, since furniture built this solidly rarely needs replacing. It is well suited to a bar cart alternative or bathroom shelving. See less
