The rich walnut brown surface highlights slender turned column, linen drum shade, characteristic of France furniture making in the other tradition, of the traditional period. The gentle wear across its surface was earned over real decades of use, not applied for effect, and it only adds to the piece's presence. Pieces of this age were made to outlast a single household, and each one carries the quiet imprint of the hands and years that came before. Rather than buying something destined for a landfill in a few years, an antique like this rewards you with materials and joinery built to be repaired, not discarded. It is well suited to a reading floor lamp. See less
