Its rich mahogany finish sets off two glazed doors, paneled cupboard base, a hallmark of of the louis philippe period France craftsmanship in the louis philippe tradition. Its surface and joinery bear the honest, gradual wear of genuine age rather than a manufactured distress, evidence of a long working life already lived. Living with an antique is a way of keeping a small piece of the past in daily use rather than behind glass. There is something quietly right about choosing a piece that has already proven its durability, instead of something manufactured for a short lifespan. It is well suited to a study or dining room hutch. See less
