The rich walnut brown surface highlights brass-inlaid top, cross-stretcher base, characteristic of France furniture making in the napoleon iii tradition, of the napoleon iii period. Its surface and joinery bear the honest, gradual wear of genuine age rather than a manufactured distress, evidence of a long working life already lived. Living with an antique is a way of keeping a small piece of the past in daily use rather than behind glass. Rather than buying something destined for a landfill in a few years, an antique like this rewards you with materials and joinery built to be repaired, not discarded.
