Set of 6 Copeland Spode India Tree luncheon plates, decorated with the pattern’s characteristic flowering tree in a warm palette of rust, ochre, and brown, accented by a softly lustrous finish. This example bears the Copeland Spode England India Tree backstamp as well as an impressed 'Copeland Spode Imperial' mark to the reverse. Each with scalloped edge measuring 9 inches in diameter.
India Tree belongs to a long tradition of English ceramics drawing upon Asian-inspired botanical decoration. Spode produced numerous variations of India and India Tree over the course of its history, with the pattern continuing to be made during the Copeland period and becoming one of the company’s enduringly popular designs.
