Large and highly decorative vintage figural ewer featuring an elaborate Renaissance Revival–inspired composition with a dramatic fish or dolphin-form handle, cherub/putto figure, ram’s-head detail, dimensional flowers, fruit, foliage and scrolling ornament.
The ewer is constructed of substantial nonmagnetic cast metal, believed to be spelter/zinc alloy, and rests on a genuine marble base. Measuring approximately 24 inches high and weighing approximately 15 pounds, it has considerable presence as a statement decorative object.
This piece was inventory from the seller’s former antiques and home furnishings store and was custom decorative-painted approximately 40 years ago. The layered finish combines antiqued silver and gold tones with muted green and floral accents, emphasizing the exceptionally detailed casting.
A brass fitting is present at the top. This may indicate that the ewer was originally intended for, or at some point adapted for, use as a lamp; its original configuration is unknown. It is offered here as a decorative ewer.
The custom-painted surface has developed cracking, flaking and areas of finish loss over approximately four decades, particularly visible on close inspection. These areas have been left as found rather than extensively restored. Please review photographs for condition.
An unusual, substantial decorative piece well suited to a traditional, Renaissance Revival, Baroque-inspired, maximalist or eclectic interior.

The custom decorative-painted finish, applied approximately 40 years ago, shows age-related cracking, flaking and areas of paint loss. Most noticeable on close inspection and in detailed photographs. No attempt has been made to repaint or extensively restore the finish. Genuine marble base. Brass fitting remains at top. Please review photographs closely. I wouldn’t describe this as “patina” because we’re dealing primarily with deterioration of an applied custom paint finish, not a naturally developed metal patina. less
