Early American standing desk constructed from wide, rough-sawn wooden boards with a deeply worn dark finish and straightforward utilitarian joinery. The sloped, hinged writing surface lifts to reveal a spacious storage compartment with remnants of stenciled lettering beneath the lid. A locking front panel secures the writing compartment, while two divided drawers below retain ornate brass-tone bail pulls. The left drawer is divided in half, and the right contains four organizational sections. A large plank-built cabinet door with strap hinges and a surface-mounted lock opens to two interior shelves. Irregular boards, exposed fasteners, saw marks, knots, and variations in the grain lend the desk a strong primitive character.
