A french artist born in 1921 and died in 2004, best known as a tapestry designer and creator of aubusson tapestries. Beautiful decorative tapestry signed r. Fumeron, created by the renowned robert four manufacturer. French tapestry designer rené fumeron, known for his designs produced by the famous tapestry workshops of aubusson. Beautiful aubusson tapestry designed by rené fumeron, depicting an atmospheric marshland scene with reeds, water birds and foliage, rendered in a sophisticated palette of ochre, mustard, olive green, ivory and deep brown. The tapestry bears the signature of rené fumeron and, close to the signature, the mark/symbol of the atelier robert four, one of the historic aubusson tapestry workshops. The reverse also carries the woven/marked number 4/6, indicating this is number 4 from a limited edition of 6. A particularly striking example of mid-20th-century french decorative tapestry, with a strong graphic quality and beautiful textural weaving. It would make an exceptional statement piece for a collector, traditional interior, country house or contemporary setting. Woven entirely and finely by hand in wool in a renowned workshop in aubusson. this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
