Intended for bed linen, … Read more Kelsch is a traditional fabric made of pure linen or linen blended with other plant fibers. Intended for bed linen, Kelsch was traditionally given to newlyweds. A family heirloom, the finest pieces were never used and remained in colorful wardrobes, preserved like precious treasures. This fabric is emblematic of Alsatian craft production (Ried region, Sainte Marie Aux Mines Valley). It is a beautiful example of folk art, a testament to a bygone era, yet touching and relevant today. This particular piece is woven in two colors with a checkered pattern featuring attractive variations.

The length is a good size, woven in white and blue, traditional colors for Alsatian Kelsch. It dates from the early 20th century. Antique fabrics may have slight stains or discoloration in places.
