A large 1991 studio pottery floor vase by James and Kathleen Fox of River Pottery, California, distinguished by its elegant wheel-thrown proportions and richly developed reactive glaze. Standing 22.5 inches high, the vessel has substantial architectural presence while retaining a refined nine-inch footprint.
The ceramic body is finished in an iridescent blue-grey to blue-green reactive glaze with subtle tonal movement across the surface. A contrasting pale crackle glaze defines the elongated neck and foot, creating a balanced transition between the darker central body and the lighter extremities. The restrained form and atmospheric glazing place the vase comfortably within California studio craft and Organic Modern design.
The underside carries the incised Fox studio signature or mark together with the 1991 date. At 9.8 lb, the vessel has considerable substance and scale, making it particularly effective as a floor vase, statement ceramic or collected example of late twentieth-century California studio pottery.
