Crafted in Lyon, France circa 1760, the serpentine chest is built of richly grained elm and chestnut wood and raised on graceful cabriole legs ending in delicate whorl feet. The façade showcases the refined curves and restrained ornamentation characteristic of the celebrated “Commode Lyonnaise” form.
The three long drawers across the front are embellished with finely carved Rococo-inspired foliate scrollwork at each corner and retain their original ornate bronze pulls and matching escutcheons. A shaped scalloped apron carved with a central shell motif adds movement and visual balance to the composition, while paneled sides and a molded top further highlight the quality of craftsmanship throughout.
The fruitwood surface displays exceptional natural grain and a luminous warm walnut-toned patina developed over centuries of age and use. Both decorative and highly functional, the chest offers generous storage while maintaining an elegant, airy silhouette uncommon for pieces of this scale.
This antique Louis XV commode is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and retains two working keys.
