Bjørn Wiinblad V16 “Eva” Large 20.5" Figural Centerpiece Candelabrum
Made in Denmark 1999.
Approx. 20 1/2" High x 17x 1/2 x 13
A spectacular large-scale studio hand-painted glazed ceramic by celebrated Danish artist and designer Bjørn Wiinblad (1918–2006).
This elaborate figural centerpiece is model V16 and is hand-marked to the underside with the V16 form number, Wiinblad monogram, –99 date and DANMARK.
The whimsical sculptural composition features Wiinblad’s unmistakable female face forming the front of the broad upper bowl, with stylized eyes, red lips and floral cheeks.
The bowl is supported by a tall conical female figure decorated in yellow, turquoise/green, pink and brown, with dimensional applied hands holding a gathered apron or basket-like element.
The sides of the upper bowl are exceptionally elaborate, incorporating applied sculptural leaves, flowers and multiple yellow candle cups or trumpet-form holders.
The reverse of the bowl is fully decorated with vertical and looping linear motifs, making this a true centerpiece intended to be viewed from all sides.
Bjørn Wiinblad was one of Denmark’s most distinctive 20th-century artists and designers, internationally recognized for his imaginative, theatrical figures and richly ornamented ceramics. His studio ceramics are distinguished from his more widely produced commercial wares by their hand-worked character, elaborate decoration and sculptural construction.
Great vintage condition. Overall displays beautifully. One yellow applied candle cup has an old repaired break with visible fracture lines. This is the only repair observed. No other chips, cracks or repairs observed. As with a large, intricately hand-built ceramic object of this type, minor surface and production irregularities may be present. Please review photographs carefully, particularly the detailed photograph of the repaired candle cup, as they form an important part of the condition description.
