Impressive large vintage Japanese earthenware vase featuring elaborate hand-decorated Satsuma-style ornamentation. The vase is richly embellished with Buddhist figures, a dramatic winding dragon, extensive gilt decoration, raised moriage enamel detailing, and colorful geometric and foliate motifs against deep cobalt, green, red, blue and gold tones.

The decoration extends completely around the vase, making this an especially striking display piece from virtually every angle. The shoulder and pedestal base feature additional raised green enamel and gilt decoration, while the substantial rolled rim is finished in deep cobalt blue with gold accents.

The underside is hand marked “MADE IN JAPAN,” consistent with Japanese export wares of the pre-WWII period. Estimated circa 1920s–1930s. No individual artist or factory mark has been identified.

Measurements: Approximately 14.5" tall × 9" diameter. Top rim approximately 5" diameter; base approximately 5" diameter. Weight approximately 5 lb 9 oz.

Condition: Very good vintage condition overall with age-related wear, including noticeable rubbing and loss to the gilding around portions of the upper rim and scattered minor wear to the gilt and decorative surfaces. Crazing is visible on the underside consistent with age. Please review photographs closely as they form an important part of the condition description.
