A vintage four-panel folding screen or room divider combining Hollywood Regency glamour with Chinoiserie and Neoclassical influences c. 1960s
The front is decorated with trompe-l’oeil drapery and architectural balustrades with gilded accents against a black lacquer background. The back presents are more restrained aesthetic, comprising bamboo and scholars’ rocks. The contrast between the European-inspired façade and the Asian imagery on the reverse gives the screen a distinctive character.
Brass hinges join the four panels, while each foot is finished with a thin sheet of brass wrapped around the base and secured with small nails—a construction detail consistent with mid century production.
