A magnificent and museum-quality example of mid-19th century English ceramic artistry, this antique Victorian Coalport porcelain 9" dessert plate dates to circa 1849. Acquired from a premier source in England, this cabinet piece is a rare survivor of the highest tier of Victorian luxury dinnerware.
At the center is a breathtaking, naturalistic portrait of a Falcon, meticulously hand-painted by the legendary English porcelain master, John Randall (1810–1910).
The central artwork is framed by an extraordinarily complex, maroon-enameled pierced (reticulated) rim. This intricate "openwork" edge required master-level craftsmanship to hand-slice into the delicate clay before firing.
