The romantic composition draws upon the French pastoral tapestry tradition of the 18th century, with a softly faded palette of warm cream, beige, taupe, muted blue-gray, dusty rose and charcoal. Intricate Jacquard weaving creates remarkable detail throughout the figures, animals and landscape.

Measuring approximately 72 inches wide by 54 inches high, the tapestry has impressive scale and makes a beautiful statement piece above a sofa, console, bed or large mantel. The unlined reverse reveals the woven construction and original coloration.

Maker and country of origin are unknown; no label or signature is present. Based upon construction, this appears to be a later Jacquard-woven interpretation of an earlier European pastoral design rather than an 18th-century handwoven Aubusson tapestry. See less
