The vase has an organic baluster form with a sculptural four-fold, or quatrefoil, rim. Its surface is decorated with dramatic pulled and striated bands forming repeated arch and wave motifs across a mottled translucent ground. Under changing light, the metallic iridescence produces an especially vivid oil-slick effect.

Unsigned, as is common with period Bohemian art glass. Based on the combination of the quatrefoil rim, strongly iridescent violet coloration, striated decoration and period construction, the vase is attributed to Josef Rindskopf Söhne, one of the important Bohemian glassworks active during the Art Nouveau period. Related techniques and forms were also produced by contemporaneous firms including Wilhelm Kralik Sohn, and the attribution therefore remains qualified.

The highly sculptural silhouette and unusually moody coloration make this an especially effective display piece, equally at home in an Art Nouveau collection or a contemporary interior.
