Built with an auspicious eight-sided configuration symbolizing wealth and good fortune, the basket features three fully intact nesting inner trays that slide apart seamlessly. The lid is a striking focal point, showcasing a beautifully preserved black lacquer panel adorned with a hand-painted gold-gilt shanshui (mountain-water) landscape, complete with classical pavilions and elegant calligraphic inscriptions. The entire structure is wrapped in exceptionally tight, geometric split-bamboo and wicker panel work, bound together by robust bentwood frames. It is topped by a heavy, rigid overhead carrying handle reinforced with decorative, hand-carved brass brackets flanking the upper grip. Kept in remarkable condition for its age, this statement piece features absolutely no structural cracks or missing woven elements.
