Registered on June 16, 1880, the Beatrice pattern features an intricate Aesthetic Movement composition of flowering branches, stylized foliage and geometric ribbon motifs, framed by an elaborate floral and geometric border in rich brown transfer decoration against a warm cream ground. Produced by Wedgwood & Co. of Tunstall, Staffordshire, the bowl bears the firm's Beatrice unicorn trademark and British registration mark to the underside. At 15 inches across and 5 inches high, its unusually generous scale gives it considerable decorative presence as a centerpiece, serving bowl or displayed piece of antique English transferware.
