Bold dragon carving gives this wooden writing desk a striking presence. A sweeping dragon crest rises above swirling clouds and waves, while sculptural dragon legs and a richly carved front carry the detail through the base. Warm reddish brown surfaces contrast with the dark carved recesses.
The raised gallery includes a fitted cabinet with vertical letter compartments and a small drawer, along with shelves and an upper right compartment. A broad front drawer provides additional storage. The elaborate carving and fitted arrangement recall Japanese export furniture, making this an expressive focal point for a study or library.
