A mid-twentieth-century Staffordshire-style mantel figure modelled as a seated King Charles spaniel, circa 1940–1960, with a working date in the 1950s. The hollow moulded or slip-cast ceramic body is finished in a smooth cream-white gloss glaze and retains hand-applied facial and decorative details.
The figure follows the traditional Staffordshire spaniel format, with deeply modelled feathering through the coat, separately articulated forepaws, a curled tail and raised collar, padlock and chain ornament. The facial decoration is applied in black, dark brown and rust-orange tones, with painted brows, pupils, muzzle and additional detailing defining the expression.
The reverse is comparatively restrained and incorporates a small firing vent high on the back. The underside is formed with a broad closed recessed base. These construction characteristics, together with the smooth glaze and regular moulding, are consistent with twentieth-century Staffordshire Revival production.
The metallic collar and chain decoration retains visible gilt or lustre traces but shows substantial age-related wear and loss, exposing much of the raised moulded detail beneath. The glaze remains notably clean and glossy, without the extensive crazing seen on many related examples.
At 3.12 lb, the figure is relatively substantial for its 12-inch height. No maker or country mark has been documented, and the piece is therefore catalogued conservatively as Staffordshire-style rather than assigned to a specific English factory.
