A striking mid-century abstract composition that brings together architectural geometry and suggestions of a coastal landscape through a carefully balanced arrangement of colour and form, executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition sits between pure abstraction and landscape, with angular forms suggesting buildings or structures gathered beside water. An expansive field of pale blue creates a sense of openness, while a slender golden line stretches across the upper canvas, reading both as a distant horizon and a strong geometric device.

Executed in a distinctly mid-century modernist language, the work shows influences of geometric abstraction, reducing architecture and landscape into intersecting planes and blocks of colour. Its asymmetrical composition and generous negative space lend the painting a particularly fresh, contemporary quality.

Luminous blues are layered with saturated cobalt, ultramarine and deep navy. These cool tones are enlivened by mustard yellow and warm golden brown, alongside passages of white and cream. A near-black circular form anchors the foreground, while the fine golden horizon provides a striking contrast against the blue.

Broad, controlled areas of colour are combined with more expressive, visibly worked passages. Vertical strokes and overlapping bands of blue create movement and depth, while subtle variations in opacity allow underlying colours and canvas texture to remain visible. The result feels both carefully constructed and intuitively painted.
