This small lattice panel is constructed by a series of joinery (perfected by the Chinese craftsmen) that presented the small pieces of wood to lay perfectly in place in the geometric pattern. The frontal pieces are rounded and smooth while the back pieces are flat. The images clear show the differentiations. The series of different joints were used in small panel like this one or one that measures over five feet and more. The wood has been varnished to preserve its antiquity. It is a small but is an interesting wall hanging.
The provenance of this small panel is the Jiangnan area of where the Yangzi River runs through the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Anhui. It was most lightly removed from a small window from a house older than 19th century and refinished.
