Hand-crafted in France circa 1790, this vessel has a circular opening on top with a thick, pinched lip and two wide, sturdy handles. The spout protrudes from the body of the jar and is surrounded by ribs that run vertically along its exterior. Made with the coiling method, by which coils or ropes of rolled clay are stacked and smoothed together into the desired shape. The glaze has patinated beautifully with time. With its gorgeous shape, color, and rustic charm, this artifact of culinary history would make a lovely decorative addition to any home. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering the age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
