A fine German Saxon enamelled Krug, Annaberg or Dippoldiswalde type, dated 1710, with a rounded ribbed body, dark brown glazed surface, and polychrome enamel decoration. The vessel is ornamented with raised red and blue rosette medallions, yellow scroll devices, textured vertical ribs, and a blue-and-white twisted band below the pewter-mounted rim, all characteristic of richly decorated Saxon drinking vessels of the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

The form belongs to the tradition of German pewter-mounted Krüge, used as covered drinking vessels and often personalized through initials, dates, guild references, or ownership inscriptions. The engraved pewter lid, with wreath device, initials, and date “1710,” gives the piece particular historical presence and suggests a vessel made or mounted for individual use rather than as a purely anonymous table object.

Annaberg and nearby Dippoldiswalde were important Saxon centers for this class of dark-bodied, enamel-decorated Krug, sometimes confused with Kreussen because both traditions used dark grounds, applied relief, and bright enamel color. While no individual maker’s mark is visible, related Annaberg pieces are sometimes associated with named makers such as George Schöps.
