This 1959 German Modernist silverplate floral centerpiece ring is by Eugen Ferner of Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. Crafted in EPNS (electroplated nickel silver), the circular vessel features a wide hollow trough designed for arranging fresh flowers, greenery or seasonal botanicals while leaving the center open for a candle, hurricane, bowl or decorative object.
Its form is mid-century European design—clean, architectural and remarkably contemporary more than 65 years later. The rolled edges and substantial fabricated construction give the piece a wonderful presence, while the polished silver finish makes it especially effective as a dining table or holiday centerpiece.
Marked “EPNS / Eugen Ferner 21 / 1959.”
A scarce and highly decorative piece of German mid-century hollowware that works equally well as a functional flower arranger or sculptural centerpiece.
